How does the BubbleGen work?


The BubbleGen uses a compact and durable set of venturis to inject air into a rapidly moving water or nutrient stream‚Äč. It does this more efficiently and more quietly than a traditionally used compressor and air stones. It does not harbour bacteria like air stones can and does not clog easily.




What do I need to use the BubbleGen?


The BubbleGen is compatible with every growing style. All you need to use the Bubblegen is a nutrient tank (or plain water tank) and a single water pump rated from as little as 1000LPH all the way up to 4000LPH. Many people find Maxijet and Sicce pumps convenient. The more head of pressure a pump can generate it will perform with the BubbleGen and the MaxiJet pumps can be used in shallow water as they are free-flowing pumps. For deeper tanks use a higher power pump.




Why am i not getting bubbles?


The first thing to check is if the Bubblegen is blocked with debris. This is unlikely as the Bubblegen should clear out any blockages automatically. If your water depth is too great for the pump you have chosen. As the depth of water increases so does he weight of water above so the deeper the BubbleGen sits in a tank the larger the pump needs to be to displace the water above it.




Can I Use the BubbleGen?


The BubbleGen is compatible with every growing style that uses water or nutrients. This ranges from soil growing all the way up to DWC. Even in soil a continuously bubbling nutrient tank will increase oxygenation and maintain bacterial balance of the solution.




What if i cannot upgrade the pump in a deep tank?


It is possible to arrange the Bubblegen and pump vertically in the tank with the pump at the bottom of the tank and the Bubblegen higher up. This has the added benefit of efficiently mixing the top and bottom of the tank efficiently.




What do I do if my water pump has a 19mm outlet?


The Bubblegen comes with a 13mm hose and cable ties. Cut a small piece (about an inch) of 13mm hose and install over the Bubblegen input nozzle. The 19mm hose from the pump will fit over the outside of the 13mm hose. This can then be secured with a cable tie.

Will the BubbleGen increase my yeild?


Potentially YES! The bubblegen will increase oxygenation and in turn promote a healthier bacterial balance in your nutrient solution so as a result can help you produce to the fullest potential.




Is the BubbleGen Expensive?


Used with a single good quality water pump the BubbleGen will completely eliminate the need to purchase an air compressor, airstones, a circulation pump or a chiller pump and with a couple of common fittings (tee piece and valve) it can also replace additional water pumps used for continuous feeding or provide manual feeding via a hose. Everything can be done with ONE water pump, saving money and still allowing you to buy a better quality pump which will last longer. In addition the Bubblegen is much quieter, more efficient, maintenance free and will operate for far longer (years!) than any airstone. Is was also designed, produced and assembled in the UK rather than in China and is the result of several years of development.




Can i cool my tank with the Bubblegen?


In addition it can pull air from outside or from an air conditioning unit to aid the cooling of the water.




Does the BubbleGen need cleaning?


The BubbleGen should give you years of continuous use. While this is true it is not completely immune to salt buildup over many months of constant use this should not affect the performance of the BubbleGen. The BubbleGen is made of durable plastic and can be cleaned like any other plastic product.




What does the filter do?


This filters the incoming AIR and also acts as an additional silencer. It removes any particles such as dust and pollen before they get to the nutrient tank. This is even more important if you are using the bubblegen to bring fresh air in from outside. It is not intended to filter the water and should be replaced once per year.




What do i do if i need a replacement part (filter or suckers) for the bubblegen?


Replacement parts can be ordered online or from the shop you purchased your bubblegen. Contact us in you are having trouble locating spares.




What pumps can i use with the BubbleGen


Any pump which displaces more than 1000lph can be used with the bubbegen but if you push through a chiller or use the Bubblegen in a deeper tank then larger pumps may be required. In a simple shallow tank less than 500mm a 1250lph pump will work well with an inline chiller.




Are there different types of water pump?


Very much so yes. Certain in-line water pumps utilize different motors and impellers depending on use. These are known as pressure or free flowing pumps. Free flow pumps employ a special smaller motor that can push as much water as the larger motor pumps that handle pressurized systems. This reduces the energy consumption of the pump but the downside to these pumps designed for free flow applications without impedence. They do not handle back pressure as well that results from using the bubblegen in deeper water. It is recommended that freeflowing pumps be limited to shallow tanks with less than 400mm of nutrient.




Can I use a chiller with the BubbleGen


Yes, this improves the efficiency of the oxygenation by delivering colder water to the aeration sites. This is done by first pumping the nutrient solution before returning it directly to the bubblegen in the tank. We would suggest using 19mm pipe and connectors as this will reduce the backpressure experienced by the pump as much as possible. Also a good quality pump of at least 1250lph-1500lph between the pump and bubblegen should be used as the pump has more work to do in this setup.




Can I run multiple BubbleGens from one large pump?


Yes this can be achieved with the use of additional pipe and tee connectors if, for example, you have a large tank and want to use more than one bubblegen in a tank. Keep the length of pipe between the bubblegen and the pump as short as possible. We would suggest using 19mm pipe and connectors between the pump and bubblegen as this will reduce the backpressure experienced by the pump as much as possible. A 19mm pipe will fit over a short piece of 13mm pipe attached to the bubblegen input and then secured with a cable tie.




Can the BubbleGen work with an NFT system with a SINGLE pump?


Yes the bubblegen can operate within an NFT system and utilise the same pump. This can be done with a Tee connector between the pump and the bubblegen followed by an inline valve which can be used to adjust the flow up to the table. See our videos on Social media for a demonstration.




Can I use the BubbleGens pump to feed my garden?


Yes, simply install a Tee connector between the pump and the bubblegen followed by an inline valve and a length of hose long enough to reach your garden. On turning the valve oxygen rich nutrient solution is diverted from the bubblegen to the feeding hose. Once feeding is complete the valve is closed and the hose stored ready for next use. No need for buckets, watering cans or mess.




Will the BubbleGen affect my pH even in a sealed room with higher CO2?


We have constantly tested BubbleGens for several weeks in nutrient tanks which are kept in elevated CO2 sealed room environments and the pH remains constant. So in a properly maintained system the bubblegen will not affect the pH.
